Items to never put in your blue bin:

  • Plastic bags, air pillows, plastic shipping envelopes
    • However, these can be recycled by taking them back to participating stores
  • Bagged recyclables-DO NOT bag recyclables
    • Only exception is shredded paper as this can be placed in a large, clear plastic bag and tied closed
    • Shredded paper is not ideal for the blue bin but can be done inside a tied, clear bag
  • Food/liquids
    • Empty or rinse out, compost
  • Hazardous waste
    • Batteries, sharps/needles, paint
    • WasteFreeSD.org has options on where to recycle/properly dispose of these

      • They can also take scrap metal

Target Stores

Target stores have a guest recycling station located in the front of each store. The station is available for bottle and can recycling (aluminum, glass and plastic beverage containers), plastic film (high and low density such as plastic bags and bubble wrap), and small device electronics recycling (think MP3 players, GPS devices and ink cartridges).
